The price and weight of the standard pack of bread will be raised on Saturday amid a warning by Economy Minister Nicolas Nahhas to bakeries against manipulating the price, reported al-Akhbar newspaper on Saturday.
The price will now stand at L.L.2,000 for a 1,200-gram pack, it said.
He made his announcement after a meeting with the Bakeries Union on Friday.
He revealed that the price of a 900-gram pack will remain at L.L.1,500.
Nahhas also revealed a proposal to introduce a1,800-gram pack at the cost of L.L.3,000.
The Union had previously warned that it would stage a strike over the rise in price of diesel fuel and raw materials.
The strike was called off after an agreement was reached to subsidize flour with LL70,000, meaning that the bakeries will receive a ton of flour at the cost of LL440,000 instead of LL510,000.
