A federal judge has sentenced a Lebanese-American man to just over six years in prison after he and his wife pleaded guilty in a plot to ship money to Hizbullah.
Prosecutors say Hor Akl met with an FBI informant three years ago and began talking about ways to send money to Hizbullah.
Akl's sentence handed down Monday includes 10 years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say Akl and his wife planned for a year how to send the money overseas. They were arrested after the informant provided the couple with $200,000 for the first shipment.
Akl's wife, Amera, was sentenced to more than three years in prison nearly a year ago. The Akls are dual citizens of the United States and Lebanon.
