President Michel Suleiman applauded Monday the security measures taken in the northern city of Tripoli to control the situation following clashes that erupted between northern neighborhoods.
He stressed on the importance of national dialogue in “addressing all concerns openly” in order to protect Lebanon and maintain civil peace.
Suleiman urged Lebanese factions to “derive lessons from security tension and clashes”, pointing that the only solution is through all-party talks that could protect Lebanon from the regional implications and repercussions.
The President received Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji who briefed him on the security situation in the country in general, especially on Tripoli, and the measures taken in coordination with other security forces to deploy in the region and control the situation.
Clashes erupted over the weekend in Tripoli between Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhoods, leaving at least 14 people dead and more than 40 injured.
