Syrian Forces Arrest Lebanese Khaled Moussa in Wadi Khaled

Syrian forces arrested Tuesday, Lebanese citizen Khaled Mousa (32 years) in the northeastern border town of Wadi Khaled, for unclear reasons.

The National News Agency reported that Syrian border guards detained the man from his residence beside the Great River in the northern town of Wadi Khaled.

Former head of Moqaibleh municipality, Mahmoud Khazaal, told Agence France Presse that “Moussa, a Lebanese citizen from Wadi Khaled, was arrested in Syrian territory.”

Khazaal quoted witnesses as saying that “Khaled Moussa crossed the Great River, separating Lebanon from Syria, and was on Syrian territory when he was arrested.”

Khazaal said that Khaled owns two houses, one in Lebanese town of Moqaibleh and the other in Syrian Naoura region where he was arrested while heading back home.

According to NNA, "the whereabouts to which Moussa was taken remain unknown, as well as the reasons behind his detention.”

The incident angered area residents and officials who demanded his immediate release.

Syrian forces arrested a number of Lebanese citizens from Lebanese border areas in the past few weeks, some of them were later released.
