Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat has stressed that there were no regional obstacles to the formation of the cabinet, saying his meeting with Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun on Monday night came as part of the need to unify the vision of the March 8 camp.
“The meeting was excellent,” Jumblat said in remarks published by An Nahar daily on Tuesday. “It comes as part of necessary steps to unify the vision within the single team.”
“Despite the rumors … we are a single political team,” the PSP chief told As Safir daily.
“There is no doubt that there are obstacles. We met with Aoun to confront them and come up with a positive result,” he said.
“The obstacles are local and happen in all countries,” he told An Nahar, refuting claims about Syrian intervention in the formation of the government.
In response to a question by As Safir on his talks with Aoun, Jumblat said: “We came up with a cooperation mechanism between the PSP and the FPM similar to what we have done with the rest of our allies, particularly Hizbullah.”
Caretaker Ministers Ghazi Aridi and Wael Abou Faour accompanied Jumblat to Rabiyeh on Monday night. Caretaker Minister Jebran Bassil also attended the meeting with Aoun who later threw a dinner banquet in his guests’ honor.
