Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Miqati have agreed on the need to consolidate an agreement reached between the different parties to improve the government’s performance, As Safir daily reported on Wednesday.
The newspaper said that both officials, who held talks in Ain el-Tineh on Tuesday, stressed the importance of giving a fresh impetus to the deal reached between the president, the speaker and the PM earlier in the month on the consolidation of the government’s work.
The improved performance should come through carrying out administrative and judicial appointments to state institutions, approving the 2012 state budget, resolving the electricity crisis and moving forward in the exploration of oil in Lebanon’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
As Safir quoted ministerial sources as saying that they expected the cabinet to approve during its session on Wednesday the appointment of deputy leaders of the General Security Department and the Financial Markets Authority.
The sources also expected the approval of a ministerial committee’s recommendations on the leasing of power-generating vessels.
Miqati told As Safir that he expects more productivity if the cabinet continues to work on the same pace.
He also expected a series of appointments of civil servants next week.
