Middle East Airlines (MEA) has formally joined the global airline alliance SkyTeam, becoming its 17th member and second anchor in the fast growing Middle East region.
MEA is the second airline in the MENA region to join SkyTeam in addition to Saudi Arabian Airlines that has joined at the end of May-2012, thus expanding SkyTeam in the region.
The carrier’s membership offers SkyTeam increased access to destinations in the Middle East and Western Africa. About 40% of MEA’s network is concentrated in the Middle East – it operates to eight destinations in the Gulf Cooperation Council and another five across the rest of the Middle East.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at the MEA headquarters in the presence of Minister of Public Works Ghazi Aridi, MEA chairman Mohammad Hout and SkyTeam Executive Director Michael Wisbrun.
Aridi praised MEA’s national role, hailing the accomplishment achieved by the carrier on various levels
