Six candidates will fight the by-elections in the northern district of Koura after the deadline for the announcement of candidacies for the vacated Greek Orthodox post ended, the interior ministry announced on Saturday.
The ministry said the deadline for candidates to announce that they are running in the July 15 by-elections ended after midnight Friday.
Jean Jabr Mufarrej, Naim Moussa al-Ojaimi, Fadi Abdullah Karam, Walid Jerjes Azar, Youssef Assaad Skaff and George William Mattar have announced their candidacies for the post that was left vacant after the death of Lebanese Forces MP Farid Habib in May.
The ministry said the deadline for withdrawing from the electoral battle ends at midnight Wednesday.
The electoral showdown will be between the March 8 and 14 forces after the LF named Karam and its rival the Syrian Social National Party announced the candidacy of Azar.
LF is part of the March 14 opposition while the SSNP is a March 8 parliamentary majority supporter.
