Phalange Party denounced Monday the Syrian security forces’ infiltration of the northern region of Wadi Khaled, urging the parliament to summon the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali to object such a violation.
After its weekly politburo meeting chaired by leader Amin Gemayel, the party issued a statement condemning the Syrian violation of the Lebanese territory, supporting MP Sami Gemayel’s suggestion “that the cabinet should summon the Syrian ambassador to protest this hostile action.”
Syrian security forces infiltrated the northern region of Wadi Khaled and detained two general security members for an hour, several media outlets reported.
“The government must have zero tolerance in dealing with this issue in order to protect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial sanctity and the safety of its people” the statement added.
In a separate context, the party expressed surprise at the government's attempt to pass a bill authorizing “excessive and unjustified spending, without looking at the resources that will cover this expenditure.”
The Phalange Party pointed out that “this act contradicts with the simplest rules of Lebanese and international public accounting” adding that “such an attempt is irresponsible and will add to the burdens of the Lebanese Treasury, pushing the country towards serious consequences on the financial level.”
The party considered that the government should focus on the new state budget, adding that “there is no justification for not submitting the budget to the parliament in order to approve it within the constitutional limits.”
The Phalange Party expressed its satisfaction regarding Amin Gemayel’s latest visit to Zahle, adding that “the path of salvation will continue with the support of the people in Zahle and Bekaa, no matter what the difficulties.”
