Suleiman Calls for Greater Democracy in Lebanon
President Michel Suleiman called on Saturday for the improvement of Lebanon’s democratic performance to reap the benefits of the political changes in the region.
“We should improve our democratic performance to take advantage of what’s happening in the region in terms of democratic change,” Suleiman said in a statement released by the presidential palace.
He said the new atmosphere is based on the conduct of state-to-state relations through constitutional institutions.
According to Suleiman, Lebanon should also assume its leading role in the region as an educational, media and social base “particularly that the Lebanese (social) fabric and the constitution are a model” for others.
“They are necessary for democratic regimes in the globalized world to involve all of the society’s components in public management,” he said.
