Gemayel Urges 'Worst Govt. in Lebanon History' to Resign

Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel on Sunday slammed the government as the “worst in Lebanon’s history,” calling for its resignation and urging the opposition March 14 camp to practice “political resistance.”

“The solution begins by the government’s resignation, reconciling with the international community and finding a radical and quick solution to illegitimate arms,” Gemayel said in a speech during the inauguration of an office for his party in the Jezzine District town of Libaa.

“We totally understand the circumstances the country is going through and the accompanying difficulties and violations against sovereignty, territory and leaders, as the government stands idly by,” Gemayel added.

On the other hand, Gemayel urged “solidarity” among the ranks of the opposition March 14 coalition.

He called on March 14 to “form a ‘shadow authority’ and practice political resistance in order to push the government to heed the citizen’s daily problems.”

Addressing the recent attempt on MP Boutros Harb’s life, Gemayel said: “How can the country continue with the permanent threat facing a number of Lebanese figures and leaders, the last of which was the assassination bid against MP Boutros Harb?”

He also called on the state to “deal seriously with the specter of political assassination.”
