The coastal Lebanese city of Batroun entered the Guinness Book of World Records on Sunday for the largest cup of lemonade with a capacity of 5,543 liters.
More than 400 people participated in squeezing around 2,200 kilos of lemons mixing them with 1,000 kilos of sugar, 3000 liters of water and 1,000 kilos of ice cubes, prepared according to the traditional and famous way in Batroun.
The participants’ efforts yielded 5,543 liters of lemonade poured into a cup with a base circumference of 140 centimeters, a height of 285 centimeters and a rim circumference of 185 centimeters.
The festival, which started at 10 a.m. Sunday, was attended by a number of political figures including Minister of Energy Jebran Bassil, Minister of Tourism Fadi Abboud, Minister of Foreign Affairs Adnan Mansour in addition to residents of the coastal city, members of the municipal council, and foreign diplomats.
The event was part of the Batroun International Festival and organized by the Batroun Merchants’ Association in coordination with the city’s municipality.
The process was monitored by a representative of Guinness, along with the deputy governor and the mayor.
At the end of the day, and after the competition results were announced, free lemonade was distributed in restaurants of the city, at the beaches and public places.
