Saniora, Geagea Coordinate Future Stances

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc leader Fouad Saniora and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea coordinated their future stances following the assassination attempts against several March 14 alliance officials, An Nahar daily reported on Friday.

The newspaper said that Saniora and Geagea held a several hour meeting on the latest developments after the boycott of Christian blocs of a parliamentary session to protest the adoption of a draft-law on the employment of Electricite du Liban’s contract workers.

The Christian lawmakers from both the March 8 majority alliance and the March 14 opposition coalition opposed the law for leading to the underrepresentation of Christians in state institutions.

According to An Nahar, Saniora and Geagea, who are both part of the March 14 alliance, coordinated their stances on the next stage and expressed similar viewpoints.

They also held talks on the security situation in the country, the assassination attempts and the so-called telecom data that the opposition says is necessary to thwart plots against Lebanese officials in the future, the daily said.

Geagea escaped sniper fire at his residence in Maarab in April while also March 14 MP Butros Harb escaped an attempted murder after detonators were found in the elevator of his office building.

Lawmaker Sami Gemayel was advised by security agencies to take precautions and reports have said that Saniora had received a warning that he may be targeted as well.
