Tree Saves Drunk Russian after 7th Floor Fall

A Russian who jumped from the seventh floor of his apartment building while heavily drunk miraculously survived by getting tangled in trees on the way down, RIA Novosti agency said Monday.

The man aged about 50 was noticed by his neighbors when he was lodged in the branches on the level of the third floor of the building in Novosibirsk, a large city in Siberia, said Dmitry Chepukhalin, a representative in the local rescue service.

The man was taken off the tree by rescue workers and taken to the hospital with several bruises and scratches, he said.

Alcohol abuse kills around 500,000 Russians annually and greatly impacts male life expectancy, which is lower than in such developing countries as Bangladesh and Honduras, according to official figures.
