An Islamic summit held at Dar al-Fatwa on Saturday stressed the importance of keeping Lebanon away from regional disputes.
It said in a statement: “Muslim unity must reject strife and maintain the role of the army in preserving national unity.”
The meeting was sponsored by Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani and included the Vice President of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan and Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Naim Hassan.
The gatherers voiced their “deep concern over the current political tension in Lebanon,” expressing a fear that it will have dangerous repercussions on the general situation in the country.
They affirmed their trust in the political and religious figures, as well as the awareness of the Lebanese people, to keep Lebanon away from regional developments.
