The General Security received from Syrian authorities on Sunday two Italian technicians who went missing in Syria a few days ago.
The General Security announced in a statement that Oriano Cantari, 64, and Domenico Tedeschi, 36, were handed over to it after three days of coordination with the concerned powers.
They were kidnapped in Syria in unclear circumstances.
They have since been handed over to the Lebanese authorities at the Masnaa border crossing where a delegation from the Italian embassy in Beirut greeted them.
The freed Italians were then taken to Rafik Hariri International Airport where they were taken back to their homeland onboard an Italian military plane.
It is not yet clear who kidnapped the pair, reported Agence France Presse.
Syria’s SANA news agency in Syria reported Friday that the pair were seized by an armed terrorist group and freed by Syrian troops in the province of Damascus.
Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi thanked Italy's crisis unit for their help in securing the return of the technicians and the ministry warned Italians against travelling to Syria.
