State-run Electricite du Liban urged its employees to resume work on Monday and said they should be accompanied by security forces while returning to their offices in case of any damage.
The company said all the employees should resume work to carry out their unfinished business to guarantee a smooth functioning of the institution and serve citizens.
The statement came following a meeting of its board of directors at the Zouk power plant on Saturday morning.
It said technical teams have already begun maintenance work and repairs throughout Lebanon and mainly in the Greater Beirut area, which were suffering from severe power cuts.
The board of directors also said that it would return to the company’s headquarters in Beirut’s Mar Mikhael district after it quit its location and moved to the Zouk plant on Monday over the blocking of the firm’s main entrances by striking contract workers.
EDL advised the employees in a memo “to enter their offices with an Internal Security Forces escort to make an initial inspection of the belongings” and ask the policemen to write a report in case of missing elements or broken entry.
EDL’s crisis officially ended on Friday after a deal was struck to end the 95-day sit-in of the contract workers who were asking for their full-time employment.
