Internal Security Forces chief Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi praised the intelligence branch for exposing the terrorist plot that was targeting the country, describing it as its “masterpiece.”
“The efforts exerted (by the intelligence branch) exposed a terrorist plot aiming at carrying out assassination in the north,” Rifi said in a statement.
The statement noted that during “a short period of time the key player was revealed based on concrete evidence and the suspect was detained and referred to the judiciary, which thwarted the terrorist plot and maintained the civil peace and averted the risk of slipping into a civil and a sectarian strife.”
On Thursday, the ISF intelligence branch detained ex-minister Michel Samaha on suspicion of being involved in a plot to carry out bomb attacks in Lebanon on behalf of the Syrian regime.
