Report: General Prosecution Agreed to Provide Kfouri with Protection after Exposing Samaha

The patriotism of Milad Kfouri, who reportedly provided the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch with convicting evidence in ex-minister Michel Samaha’s case, prompted him to reveal the terrorist plot targeting the nation, a security source told An Nahar newspaper on Monday.

“Kfouri asked for protection and we provided him with it after the general prosecutor’s approval,” the source said.

It noted that everything that was carried out by the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau regarding the case was under the auspices of the general prosecution.

“We are committed by the law to provide Kfouri with complete protection, we should reward him for his national act in exposing and thwarting the terrorist plot,” it added.

Asked about the raid carried out by the Intelligence Bureau to detain Samaha, the source said: “We were dealing with a terrorist case. We had to benefit from the element of surprise just like all the countries do to halt the criminal or suspect from shooting at the security forces, escaping, and committing suicide or even hiding evidence.”

“The nation is above all, we should stop wasting time in the details,” the sources added.

Kfouri, who has several aliases, is reportedly the main figure in the case.

Samaha was arrested on Thursday and has supposedly confessed to plotting bombings in the North at the behest of chief of Syrian National Security Bureau Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk.

Over the weekend, Government Deputy Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Sami Sader charged Samaha and Mamlouk and a Syrian brigadier general, who was identified as Brig. Gen. Adnan, with plotting to assassinate political and religious figures in the country and planning terrorist attacks.

The three were also charged with planning to spur sectarian fighting through planning to carry out terrorist attacks with explosives that were transported by Samaha to Lebanon.
