Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri lashed out at LBCI channel for broadcasting a report claiming that he received huge financial aid from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
“This report is completely false,” Hariri’s press office said in a statement on Thursday.
The channel reported on Wednesday that Hariri received “a four-billion-dollar feast gift” from the two gulf countries to resolve his financial crisis.
The report said that some of the money would go to his Saudi Oger Company and Future Television.
Hariri criticized the television station's owner, Pierre Daher, accusing him of holding several meetings with Syrian security chief Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, who earlier this month was accused by the Lebanese Military Court of forming a group to commit crimes in Lebanon with ex-Minister Michel Samaha.
“Daher decided to wage campaigns of incitement and slander against Hariri and put himself at the service of (Syrian President) Bashar Assad’s regime,” the statement stated.
Hariri slammed Daher, accusing him of reaching an “unprecedented level of lack of journalistic ethics and launching uncorroborated rumors and lies.”
The statement said that the “fallacious report” is similar to a previously broadcast one by the same channel saying that Hariri is on the edge of bankruptcy.
Later LBCI tweeted that Daher refuses to reply to the accusations against him by Hariri.
“We are holding onto the information in our report,” he said.
