An electoral draft-law was on Monday sent from Baabda Palace to Speaker Nabih Berri who in his turn referred it to the parliamentary committees to study the bill.
The cabinet approved last month the draft-law that is based on proportional representation and the division of Lebanon into 13 districts in the 2013 parliamentary elections.
President Michel Suleiman signed on Saturday the decree to transfer the draft to parliament.
The March 14 opposition alliance has severely criticized it for allegedly seeking to give stronger powers to the Hizbullah-led March 8 coalition that makes up the majority of the government.
Centrist Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat also slammed the bill for being adopted in the absence of a single authority and a single state.
Electoral laws that seek to impose some political parties on others can’t provide stability, the PSP chief has said.
The draft-law will most probably face stiff opposition by March 14 and lawmakers from Jumblat’s National Struggle Front once it is discussed by the legislature.
