Former prime minister Saad Hariri met with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat in Paris on Tuesday and discussed with him the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, Hariri’s office said.
The meeting is the first between the two officials since the government of Hariri was toppled in December 2011 and the formation of a cabinet led by Prime Minister Najib Miqati.
An Nahar daily said Hariri and Jumblat were expected to address the Syrian crisis and coordinate their stances, knowing that they both support the popular revolt against President Bashar Assad’s regime that kicked off in March 2011.
An Nahar said they would also tackle the local situation in Lebanon and the electoral draft law.
President Michel Suleiman signed the draft law over the weekend, which was approved by the cabinet in August.
Hariri and Jumblat criticized the bill, which is based on proportional representation and divides Lebanon to 13 districts in the 2013 parliamentary elections.
