Head of the private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud revealed that the Syndicate Coordination Committee will have a strict stance on Thursday regarding the cabinet's delay in referring the new wages scale draft law to the parliament.
Mahfoud described in comments published in al-Liwaa the government's performance as “terrible.”
He stressed that the teachers will not remain silent amid the cabinet's negligence.
Mahfoud said that the SCC, a coalition of private and public school teachers and public sector employees, will stage protests again if the government didn't swiftly resolve the issue.
He accused the cabinet of delaying the matter on the pretext of finding sources to fund the new wages scale for public employees.
The cabinet approved earlier in September the new salaries scale which will be retroactive from July 1, 2012, but the salary adjustments would be paid in installments over a period of five years.
The state’s treasury will have more than $1billion and 200 million to cover as there are over 180,000 public sector employees including military personnel.
The government approved a new package of taxes to fund the new salaries scale but the matter is expected to witness more debate.
The cabinet imposed an additional LL1,000 tax on every land line and mobile bill and added 5 percent on the profits of the lottery winners, which was 10 percent, and fines on illegal construction along the coast.
