Geagea: Death of Hizbullah Members in Syria will have Very Dangerous Repercussions

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Friday said he was not surprised by the blast that rocked the Bekaa town of Nabi Sheet, but rather by “the news of the death of Hizbullah members in Syria, who were unfortunately contributing to the killing of the innocent Syrian people.”

Speaking after a meeting in Maarab with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly, Geagea warned that “the death of these members in Syria will have very dangerous repercussions, especially on the Shiite community.”

“This is an unwise and inappropriate behavior by Hizbullah's leadership, and it's not part of resistance and defending Lebanon. It also undermines the theory of 'the oppressed and the aggrieved' and turns Hizbullah into tyrants, not to mention that it contradicts with the government's self-dissociation policy,” Geagea added.

The LF leader said that such news “totally refute the March 8 camp's accusations against the March 14 forces that they are sending ammunition and weapons to Syria and this was only a psychological campaign against us.”

Geagea noted that “for a long period of time, Hizbullah has been implicating Lebanon in a regional inferno that is even bigger than the Syrian inferno given the presence of its military and security wings, and everyone knows that Hizbullah is ready to interfere in the event of any military confrontation between Israel and Iran or the U.S. and Iran.”

Turning to the issue of the 2013 parliamentary elections, Geagea stressed the importance of an electoral law based on small electorates, noting that it guarantees correct representation and “respects the spirit of the Taef Agreement.”

Geagea also noted that he is in constant communication with Druze leader MP Walid Jumblat over the issue of the electoral law, adding that “discussions in Bkirki are in full swing.”
