Al-Mustaqbal MP Jamal al-Jarrah said Tuesday that he would file a complaint against Tawhid movement leader Wiam Wahhab for revealing “fake” checks addressed to him and signed by Saudi Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz.
Al-Jarrah told Voice of Lebanon radio station that Wahhab’s “silly” actions are punishable by law. Former minister Mohammed Abdul Hamid Baydoun has announced he would file a complaint and “I will do the same,” the lawmaker said.
Wahhab, a pro-Syrian politician, revealed on Saturday photos of checks addressed to al-Jarrah and signed by Prince Turki, a member of the Saudi royal family. The check, worth $300,000, was issued in Cairo, he told NBN television.
He also uncovered a similar check addressed to Baydoun and another check of $400,000 addressed to Jamal Khaddam, the son of former Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam.
The Tawhid movement leader claimed that the money was aimed at funding Syrian anti-regime protestors.
Asked whether MP Oqab Saqr would file a complaint over Syrian allegations that he was arrested in Syria for aiding demonstrators, al-Jarrah said: “I don’t know.”
Al-Jarrah also unveiled to VDL that he feared for his life. “In the past, a lawmaker or a minister was assassinated after being targeted by campaigns.”
Syria has accused al-Jarrah of funding and arming a terrorist cell in Syria.
