FBI Finishes Hasan Crime Analysis as Charbel Says Team Will Take its Time before Issuing Report

The FBI investigation team that arrived in Lebanon to assess the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan completed its mission and left Beirut Monday, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper Tuesday

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel told the newspaper that the team “will take its times in analyzing the data that it gathered at the crime scene before making any announcement.”

The team left Lebanon Monday night after coordinating its tasks with the concerned judicial authorities.

Charbel refused to delve into the details of the FBI team's work, saying that it performed its duties “in the best conditions and based on a decision taken by the cabinet.”

Informed sources meanwhile told An Nahar daily Tuesday that ISF chief General Ashraf Rifi held talks with the head of the FBI team on Saturday when the group finished its mission at the Hasan's crime scene.

Hasan was killed on October 19 in a car bomb in Beirut's Ashrafiyeh district.

The sources said that the head of the team praised the professionalism of the ISF and its forensics lab.

The FBI team is expected to send a report on its findings on an unscheduled date.

It had arrived in Lebanon on Thursday where it examined the scene of Hasan's assassination, which killed the security chief and two other people.
