March 14 Declares 'Total Boycott' of Miqati Govt., Calls on Hizbullah to Abide by Baabda Declaration

The March 14 forces on Tuesday declared a “total boycott” of Prime Minister Najib Miqati's government, calling for a “neutral, salvation government that endorses the Baabda Declaration as its ministerial Policy Statement.”

“We will not tolerate that our rejection of the dangerous situation be depicted as a battle to return to power or to the premiership,” the March camp said in a statement issued after a broad meeting for its leaders at the Center House in downtown Beirut.

“Lebanon is in danger, the Lebanese state is in danger, Lebanon's people are in danger, that's why we will not remain silent, we will not be afraid, we will not surrender to the de facto situation, and we will raise the voice loudly and resoundingly until the situations change,” the conferees said.

The March 14 forces counted four dangers that are threatening the country. “The first is the return of assassinations as a means to cripple the political and democratic life in Lebanon, subjugate everyone and terrorize the freedom fighters,” said the statement.

The second threat is “the Syrian regime's insistence on using Lebanon as an arena and a mailbox in its war against its people,” March 14 said, accusing Damascus of “seeking to blow up the situations in order to export its criminal war beyond its borders.”

March 14 warned that the “third threat” is Hizbullah's provoking of an Israeli war on Lebanon.

“It would be a war not decided by the Lebanese and not fought for the sake of Lebanese interests, due to Hizbullah's monopolization of the decisions of war and peace and its allegiance to the Iranian strategy,” the conferees said.

“The fourth threat is the hegemony over the state and the attempt to change its nature and destroy its prestige, as well as preventing it from implementing the Constitution and the laws through the influence of Hizbullah's arms, not to mention the threat of blowing up the pillars of national partnership,” March 14 added.

In the face of these purported threats, the conferees called for “handing over the four suspects in the assassination of martyr premier Rafik Hariri to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and considering any protection offered for them as an attempt to cover up for the crime.”

March 14 stressed the need to “refer to the STL all the political crimes committed since 2004 until the assassination of Maj. Gen. al-Hasan.”

The conferees also called for “handing over the suspect in the assassination attempt against (MP) Sheikh Butros Harb to the Lebanese judiciary.”

Slamming the Syrian regime's violations, March 14 urged “a strict decision to deploy the Lebanese army along the border with Syria, with clear and direct orders to control the border in both directions and immediately retaliate to violations.”

The March 14 forces also said the U.N. Security Council must ask the UNIFIL peacekeeping force to assist the Lebanese army in its mission “in line with Resolution 1701.”

“The Syrian ambassador must be declared a persona non grata and the agreements with Syria must be suspended,” said the statement.

“An urgent complaint must be filed with the Arab League and the Security Council concerning the Mamlouk-Samaha plot and the Lebanese judiciary must be asked to act seriously, responsible and without delay regarding this conspiracy,” it added.

The March 14 forces stressed that “Hizbullah must publicly and realistically abide by the Baabda Declaration” that called for protecting Lebanon from the repercussions of the turmoil in the region.

They also called for “putting a timeframe for integrating Hizbullah's weapons in the Lebanese state and giving clear and direct orders to the military and security forces to deal with and suppress any illegal armed deployment across Lebanon.”

The March 14 forces also called on the Lebanese to rise against the current situations. “Your rejection is the first step towards the triumph of the approach of the state and the resurrection of the country,” said the statement.
