The Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau arrested on Saturday a Nigerian national who was allegedly monitoring the Beirut residence of the mother of Mustaqbal bloc MP Nouhad al-Mashnouq, reported al-Liwaa newspaper on Wednesday.
An informed security source told the daily that the Nigerian man was a detained in Beirut's Caracas neighborhood where, according to witnesses, he had been monitoring Mashnouq's mother's building from a nearby building for a couple of days.
A resident in the area noticed his suspicious activity and called on youths in the area to detain him to prevent him from escaping until security forces arrived at the scene, said the source.
Another resident in the area said that the Nigerian man had arrived in Lebanon from Turkey last week and he was planning on traveling to Israel soon after.
Intelligence Bureau investigations focused on how he entered Lebanon, for what purpose, and whether he had weapons in his possession.
Residents of the area noted that Mashnouq visits his mother's house at least once a week.
