Prime Minister Najib Miqati kicked off on Tuesday an official visit to Hungary where he met with its President Janos Ader, Speaker Laszlo Kover, his counterpart Viktor Orban, and members of the Lebanese diaspora.
Miqati said after meeting Oraban that he had “sensed his complete support for the Lebanese government's policy, especially since Lebanon is at the center of the storms raging in the Middle East.”
For his part, the Hungarian premier expressed his appreciation for Miqati's efforts and the democracy practiced in Lebanon.
“We praise the efforts to maintain Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, and political system,” he added.
“Maintaining its sovereignty and democracy is essential for us,” he stressed.
Later on Tuesday, Miqati met with members of the Lebanese diaspora during where he stated that he is seeking, “along with all who are loyal to it, to preserve Lebanon and its stability.”
“I am seeking to prevent anything that may cause chaos and spread the problems of others to our country,” declared Miqati.
“I assure you that we are living in a period of relative stability due to the policy that we have adopted and the Lebanese people's insistence to steer clear from dangers against our country,” he explained.
“The international community understands that Lebanon must be kept away from all that is taking place around it,” noted the premier.
“I am reassured because Lebanon is protected by God, its residents, and expatriates,” he stated.
“There can be no fear over Lebanon as long as it holds on to its freedom, democracy, diversity, and openness,” he said.
Miqati had concluded on Monday an official visit to Bulgaria where he met with his counterpart Boyko Borissov.
Miqati and his accompanying ministerial delegation are scheduled to return to Beirut on Tuesday night.
