March 14 Warns against Opening Southern Lebanon Front

The March 14 general-secretariat warned on Wednesday against any “adventure” that would open a new front in southern Lebanon in light of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Following its weekly meeting, the general-secretariat announced in a statement “full solidarity with the Palestinian people that are being targeted by Israel and paying the price of its brutality.”

It urged the U.N. Security Council and the Arab League to protect Gaza with a resolution that warns Israel against launching war on the Palestinians.

The statement also warned against “any adventure that would seek to open the Lebanese southern front,” referring to two rockets dismantled by Lebanese military experts on Monday.

The rockets, which were found near the southern village of Halta, were equipped with timers and ready to fire at Israel.

In 2008, during the last Israeli offensive on Gaza, several rockets were fired from southern Lebanon at northern Israel, provoking a brief Israeli artillery response.

Several rockets were also fired from the south last year.

The March 14 general-secretariat reiterated that a decision by the opposition alliance's MPs to boycott parliamentary work is nothing but a way to topple the government of Prime Minister Najib Miqati.

The boycott is also aimed at forming a new cabinet based on constitutional norms, it said.

The coalition boycotted parliamentary activity following the Oct. 19 assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau chief Wissam al-Hasan, which it blamed on the government.
