Pietton Warns Miqati, Berri About Political Vacuum

France warned the Lebanese from the risk of the absence of a government in a letter delivered by French ambassador to Lebanon Denis Pietton to both Speaker Nabih Berri and Premier-designate Najib Miqati on Wednesday.

After his talks with Miqati, Pietton expressed his country’s concern over the unstable Lebanese situation amid Arab revolutions.

He stressed on the importance of speeding up the cabinet formation, warning that the vacuum would encourage the deterioration of the economy of the country.

The ambassador revealed that the international community has no rights to interfere in the cabinet formation, saying it has only “the right to worry about a weakened country regarded as a symbol of freedom and coexistence,” Pietton said.

On another issue, the ambassador called on the Lebanese authorities to continue their efforts in finding the seven Estonian tourists who were kidnapped in the Bekaa valley in March.
