2012 provided audiences with a lot of great films, such as “Argo”, “Lincoln”, “The Avengers”, and most recently, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”. It wasn’t all peachy though; there were also quite a lot of awful movies this year, and here are the 10 worst ones:
10. Wrath of the Titans
“Wrath of the Titans” was supposed to right the wrongs of 2010’s “Clash of the Titans”. To be fair, it was a superior film, but that’s not saying much, considering that the bar was pretty low to begin with. Shallow and forgettable, “Wrath” was not worth anyone’s time or money.
9. Battleship
Based on the board game of the same name, “Battleship” was too ridiculous to be taken seriously. The film would have been a lot better if it focused on modern day naval battles, but for some odd reason, it was an alien invasion flick. It ended up looking like a “Transformers” wanna-be, and became one of the biggest flops of the year.
8. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
A movie that took its premise way too seriously, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” could have been one of the most memorable movies of the summer. Instead, it was a dull chore, and that’s a pity.
7. Red Dawn
A remake of 1984's "Red Dawn", this update isn't any better than the original. In fact, it's significantly worse, with a terrible script and cheesy acting. Not to mention that the film's villains, the invading North Koreans, don't seem to have a political agenda of any kind.
6. One For The Money
Starring the beautiful Katherine Heigl, this lazy, by-the-numbers bounty hunter "comedy" is an extremely unfunny chick-flick, one that wastes a talented lead by constantly going for the lowest common denominator.
5. The Watch
This one earns a spot on this list because of all the talent involved. When four of the funniest people in Hollywood can't make you chuckle a couple of times in what is supposed to be a comedy, something is seriously wrong. Fail.
4. Taken 2
This movie is the definition of a cash-grab. Taking advantage of the good will generated from 2008’s “Taken”, this sequel provided none of the thrills of the original. Loud, dumb, and watered down, “Taken 2” was a big disappointment, one that couldn’t even be saved by the ever reliable Liam Neeson.
3. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
The original “Ghost Rider” was utterly awful, and “Spirit of Vengeance” did little to reinvigorate the franchise. Directed by the guys who made the “Crank” movies, it lacked a coherent story, and was obnoxious from start to finish.
2. A Thousand Words
This latest Eddie Murphy flop is about a fast-talking agent who is cursed with a magical tree. Every time he says a word, the tree sheds a leaf. If all the leaves shed, he dies. It turns out that a movie where Eddie Murphy doesn’t utter a word isn’t a very entertaining one.
1. The Devil Inside
Exorcism movies can be terrifying if done right. Unfortunately, this cheap and terribly acted found-footage horror flick is funnier than it is scary, with one of the worst endings in recent memory. Avoid it at all costs.
