Miqati Urges Judiciary to Swiftly Issue Indictment in Samaha's Case
Prime Minister Najib Miqati urged on Wednesday the judiciary to swiftly issue the indictment in the case of former Minister Michel Samaha, who is accused along with two Syrian officials of forming a criminal gang aimed at carrying out attacks in Lebanon at Syria's behest.
General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi briefed Miqati on the jurisdiction work concerning several cases during a meeting at the Grand Serail.
The premier also called on the judiciary to swiftly carry out the trials of Fatah al-Islam inmates after the construction work at the new courtroom at Roumieh prison is nearing its end.
Fatah al-Islam battled the Lebanese army in 2007 in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared in northern Lebanon.
Miqati discussed with Madi the illegal medications scandal, which has been lingering on for about ten months before it was exposed in November.
The General Prosecution filed a lawsuit in December against Abdul Latif Fneish, brother of Minister of State for Administrative Reform Mohammed Fneish for being involved in forging certificates of laboratory tests, along with another suspect identified as Fouad Ahmed Wehbeh.
