Stars Bare Shoulders on Chilly Globes Red Carpet
Hollywood stars walked the red carpet into the 70th annual Golden Globe awards Sunday in a glittering array of gowns, daring to bare their shoulders despite the chilly temperatures in Los Angeles.
Red was the color of choice for some, including "Silver Linings Playbook" best actress winner Jennifer Lawrence in a strapless gown with a fitted bodice from designer Raf Simons' debut Christian Dior haute couture collection.
It was a marked change for the "Hunger Games" star, who had previously leaned towards black -- and who Sunday avoided shaking hands, saying she had the flu that has been sweeping the United States.
Claire Danes, who gave birth just a month ago and won for best dramatic TV actress for "Homeland," opted for a red Versace halter top gown, and "New Girl" Zooey Deschanel donned an equally traffic-stopping Oscar de la Renta creation.
Many of the stars commented on the weather as they arrived at the Beverly Hilton hotel -- it was relatively cool for Tinseltown, with the thermometer hovering around 53 degrees Fahrenheit (12 degrees Celsius).
"Zero Dark Thirty" star Jessica Chastain, winner for best actress in a dramatic film, went the halter-top route with a plunging pale sea foam Calvin Klein gown and intimidating white platform shoes.
"I wanted to wear something that made me feel happy," she told E! television's Ryan Seacrest, before complimenting Naomi Watts -- in a red Zac Posen gown -- for her performance in the tsunami drama "The Impossible."
Posen also dressed "Girls" star Lena Dunham, whose long and highly structured strapless chocolate brown gown made an intriguing counterpoint to her right upper-arm tattoo.
She won the award for best actress in a comedy series, and took home the Golden Globe for best TV comedy for her show.
In a remark befitting her Brooklyn hipster character Hannah Horvath, Dunham told Seacrest that her stylist was on her case to keep adjusting her dress as her breasts kept shifting the gown to the right.
"I have a set of strict instructions and I'm sticking to them," she said.
Anne Hathaway from "Les Miserables" came out in a two-piece icy white floor-length Chanel ensemble to collect her Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a musical.
Jennifer Lopez wasn't up for any Globes, but she snagged everyone's attention when she came on stage to present an award in a sheer white lace gown from Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad that hugged every one of her curves.
British songstress Adele, winner for best original song for the theme to the James Bond blockbuster "Skyfall," made her first big public appearance since the birth of her first baby in a mature black Burberry dress with beaded neckline.
"All these people here, like characters I've come to love in films and TV," she gushed to Seacrest. "It's very weird coming here and not being around my (music) peers."
Her compatriot Helen Mirren, nominated for her role as Alfred Hitchcock's wife Alma in "Hitchcock," stepped out in a form-fitting black Badgley Mischka creation with silver and gold accents.
Others striking a pose for the cameras were "Downton Abbey" star Michelle Dockery in a gold and white Alexandre Vauthier dress, a single-yet-again Taylor Swift in a plum Donna Karan gown and Julianne Moore, named best actress in a TV movie, in a tuxedo-inspired black and white Tom Ford outfit.
"I actually called him up and asked him to make me a dress," Moore confided, making it sound all so easy.
