Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat urged Syrian President Bashar Assad to take “immediate measures that could introduce radical change” to confront the challenges facing Syria.
He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “These changes will help fulfill the people’s legitimate demands and prevent Syria from falling victim to division.”
“Syria is passing through an historic phase that will not only have repercussions on its internal scene, but Lebanon and the region,” he noted.
Furthermore, the MP stressed the need to launch dialogue among all factions in Syria, away from violence.
Jumblat also called for an immediate and serious investigation in the recent unrest.
Earlier on Monday, the Druze leader urged the Lebanese officials to speed up the cabinet formation, stressing that Lebanon should hold onto the Taef agreement.
He told As Safir newspaper that the government should be formed soon to face “the frivolous voices from March 8 and 14 that are trying to delay (the cabinet lineup).”
He noted that the formation of the new government is aimed at guaranteeing the safety of the Lebanese economy, security, the resistance and Syria.
