Russia Kills Last Militant Linked to Metro Bombing

Russia said on Wednesday it had killed the last militant involved in a double suicide bombing that killed 41 people and wounded dozens on the Moscow metro in 2010.

"The last of the organizers received fair retribution," Dmitry Pavlov, spokesman for the National Anti-Terror Committee led by the head of the FSB security service, told Agence France Presse.

The man, identified as Gusen Magomedov, was killed in the volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan.

He was the last surviving organiser of the metro bombings and personally accompanied one of two female suicide bombers to the Moscow metro, said Pavlov.

Separately, the Investigative Committee said it planned to confirm the identity of the man killed in Dagestan, part of the ongoing investigation into the twin bombings.

The dual morning rush hour attacks on the Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations, around 40 minutes apart, killed 41 people and wounded more than 80 in 2010 and marked the deadliest violence in the Russian capital since 2004.

The two female suicide bombers were also from Dagestan which security analysts believe is now Russia's most volatile region.
