Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel stated on Friday that “it has become urgent” to hold national dialogue sessions following the cabinet's resignation, noting that he “is betting on the important role President Michel Suleiman can play in preserving stability in the country.”
"Suleiman plays an important role in preventing vacuum,” Gemayel said in phone call with LBCI television after Prime Minister Najib Miqati had announced the cabinet's resignation.
He added: “we are fully confident that Suleiman will bear the responsibility of safeguarding the country against internal and foreign dangers.”
The former president urged all political leaders to join forces with Suleiman, also calling on Miqati to collaborate to “find a way out” of the current situation.
"We also urge for supporting the army and the security forces in their mission.”
Miqati announced his resignation after a cabinet session in which he failed to pass the extension of Rifi's term and the formation of the committee to oversee the elections.
Miqati stressed during his resignation speech that all political forces must shoulder their responsibilities to “pull Lebanon out of the unknown.”
