The March 14 General Secretariat noted on Wednesday that Hizbullah's allies can no longer cover up the party's regional agenda.
It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “The resignation of Premier Najib Miqati demonstrated that Hizbullah's regional agenda has become a burden on its allies.”
It therefore hoped that the resignation would “serve as an opportunity for all sides to return to respecting the constitution,” urging President Michel Suleiman to immediately set the date for parliamentary consultations to appoint a new prime ministers.
The government resigned on Friday over its failure to approve extending the term of Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi and forming the authority to oversee the parliamentary elections.
In addition, the March 14 forces stressed the importance of adhering to the Baabda Declaration, which calls for steering Lebanon away from regional crises.
They demanded that all Arab and international authorities adopt the declaration in all statements related to Lebanon.
“The Baabda Declaration should serve as the basis of the new government's ministerial statement,” they stressed.
Signed during a national dialogue session in June, the declaration calls for Lebanon to disassociate itself from regional conflicts.
