Report: Hussein Jaafar's Kidnappers Won't Release him without Full Ransom

The kidnappers of Hussein Jaafar once again contacted his family in order to demand a ransom of $1 million, said various media outlets Sunday.

Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) said that the abductors stated that even if the Jaafar clan kidnapped all the residents of the Bekaa town of Arsal, they will not release Hussein Jaafar without the complete ransom.

The kidnappers made their initial demand for a million dollar ransom on Thursday after they contacted the family.

Hussein Jaafar, 30, is reportedly being held in the Yabroud region in Syria near the Lebanese border in the Bekaa.

He was kidnapped on Sunday in the outskirts of the town of al-Bustan in al-Hermel.

The incident led to tit-for-tat kidnappings in the town of Arsal with members of the Jaafar clan abducting a number of locals.

Authorities from the town demanded on Wednesday that the state intervene to resolve the issue and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.

They urged the Jaafar clan against falling victim to attempts to create strife in Lebanon, while stressing their readiness to reveal the fate of Hussein Jaafar.

The clan has since released 10 of the captives it abducted in a goodwill gesture.
