Mustaqbal Bloc Rejects 'Spiteful' Acts over Electoral Law

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc renewed on Tuesday its demand for the adoption of the hybrid parliamentary electoral law for the elections.

It said that discussions over the law should steer away from “spiteful acts”.

The bloc advocates the adoption of a law that combines the winner-takes-all and proportional representation systems.

On the formation of a new cabinet, it lauded the positive atmosphere that prevailed during MP Tammam Salam's appointment as prime minister-designate, hoping that this atmosphere would carry on in the government formation process.

It noted that the resignation of the previous government “was met by relief by the people,” hoping that the new cabinet would bring prosperity in Lebanon after the previous one had only brought about hardships.

To that end, the bloc hoped that the political powers would facilitate Salam's mission to form a new government.

“The people and country are in need for the revitalization of state institutions,” it stressed.

“The people look forward to a government that would work to meet its aspirations in confronting daily burdens,” continued the bloc.

The new government must therefore not be comprised of members who will run in the parliamentary elections, remarked the Mustaqbal bloc.
