Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel expressed concern on Friday after the security situation in the country became the “captive” of the strong rhetoric by politicians.
“Citizens fear that the country might slip over into sedition,” Charbel said.
He stressed that the security forces has raised their alert to the maximum to confront the challenges as they are the country's only savior.
Charbel praised the tasks undertaken by the security forces, pointing out that they stood up to the challenges by safeguarding the civil peace and stability.
“This country deserves our sacrifices until we reach safety,” he said.
Since the eruption of Syria's clashes in 2011, Lebanon has witnessed a spate of tit-for-tat sectarian abductions and gunfights mainly in the northern city of Tripoli have left dozens of casualties.
