President Michel Suleiman is expected to visit the defense ministry compound in Yarze on Friday to give a speech on the occasion of Liberation Day.
According to As Safir newspaper published on Tuesday, the president, accompanied by Caretaker Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn, will hold talks with Army commander Maj. Gen. Jean Qahwaji and senior officers.
Suleiman will tackle in his speech the latest local and regional developments and the challenges confronting the army.
Liberation Day commemorates the Israeli army’s withdrawal from south Lebanon in May 2000. Several rallies are being held on Friday in southern towns on the occasion.
Lebanon has witnessed recently the most dangerous security situation since 2005 after a series of incidents engulfed the northern city of Tripoli in battles between pro- and anti-Syrian President Bashar Assad regime.
