Report: U.S. Delegation in Beirut to Tackle Local, Regional Developments

A U.S. congress delegation is scheduled to arrive in Beirut in the upcoming few days to hold talks with senior officials over the situation in Lebanon and the region.

According to al-Joumhouria newspaper published on Wednesday, the delegation will also discuss the impact of the conflict in Syria on the neighboring countries including Lebanon.

The report said that the U.S. embassy in Beirut set the meetings between the delegation and senior state officials, party leaders and officials.

The newspaper added that the delegation will tackle the dispute over the parliamentary elections and the process of cabinet formation.

U.S. President Barack Obama expressed concern on Monday over Hizbullah's "active and growing role" aiding Syria's army against rebels trying to topple the government in a phone call to President Michel Suleiman.

Lebanon is officially neutral on the violence in Syria, but a range of Lebanese groups are openly intervening in the conflict that has killed more than 70,000 people since it began in March 2011.
