Sources escorting former Prime Minister Saad Hariri confirmed that he is in Paris along with his family, An Nahar newspaper reported on Saturday.
The sources refused to comment on reports that Hariri had received threats against his life.
French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero had announced on Friday that the security of the ex-PM Hariri “is a priority for France,” as is the security of the whole of Lebanon and all Lebanese officials.
Asked if Hariri had sought refuge in France out of security fears, he responded that Hariri frequently visits the European country, adding that he does not have any information about the security claims.
Liberation French newspaper had reported earlier that Hariri had turned to France after he was the target of an assassination attempt in Lebanon by the Syrian regime last week.
It revealed that Washington and Riyadh had advised him not to return to Lebanon after U.S. and Saudi intelligence said that his life is in danger.
