General Prosecutor Hatem Madi retired on Monday for reaching the mandatory age of retirement for judges which stands at 68, media reports said.
Madi was replaced by acting Judge Samir Hammoud, the same way he was given the post when the former general prosecutor, Said Mirza, retired in July 2012, the reports said.
Hammoud will be acting prosecutor pending the formation of a new government and the appointment of a new judge to replace Madi, the reports added.
Premier-designate Tammam Salam has so far failed to form his cabinet around two months after President Michel Suleiman tasked him with the job.
