Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has called for an emergency cabinet session to take a stance from a European Union decision to blacklist Hizbullah's military wing.
In remarks to several newspapers published on Tuesday, Mansour said: “The cabinet should hold an extraordinary session because this issue is linked to (Lebanon's) political life in general and would have repercussions” on the country.
“We should take the appropriate decision,” he added.
He warned that Israel would now find an EU-backed excuse to hit Hizbullah bases in Lebanon.
The EU's 28 foreign ministers reached the decision unanimously on Monday.
The action came after prolonged diplomatic pressure from the United States, the Netherlands and Israel, which consider Hizbullah a terrorist organization.
Mansour promised to follow up the issue diplomatically.
But he reiterated that although the decision was issued by the EU, it was the result of heavy pressure exerted by the Jewish lobby with the participation of anti-Hizbullah Lebanese politicians.
He called on the Lebanese to unify and avoid further differences which he said would affect the government formation efforts negatively.
