The Phalange Party stressed on Monday the importance of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in putting an end to assassinations in Lebanon, saying that it is not aimed at seeking revenge.
It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “The STL seeks to achieve justice and stability in Lebanon.”
“The party therefore holds the Lebanese government responsible for any failure to abide by its international commitments to the international tribunal,” it said.
“Seeking to obstruct its work in any way whatsoever will be confronted by the Phalange party with all possible democratic measures,” it stressed.
Addressing Hizbullah’s recent announcement that it was infiltrated by Israeli spies, the statement called on the party to “reconsider its approach to the laws and Lebanese state.”
“This discovery may lead to other spies,” it noted.
The Phalange party therefore called on Hizbullah to cooperate closely with the Lebanese security forces “that have proven themselves capable of uncovering more than one foreign spy network in Lebanon.”
On the consultations to form a new government policy statement, the party questioned the “unjustified delay in the formation given that the cabinet is comprised of members from the same political camp.”
It noted however that it was not surprised that the consultations are being obstructed by the STL clause.
The statement warned against adopting generalities in addressing Lebanon’s commitments to international agreements, holding the government responsible for any consequences Lebanon may face over its position on these commitments.
