MP Michel Murr on Tuesday announced that he will grant his vote of confidence in parliament to Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s newly-formed government.
Following talks with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh, Murr said: “There are three reasons that make me want to grant my confidence: the first is that I always consult with Speaker Berri, and … I cannot withhold my confidence from a government Speaker Berri is partner in, given that I have a very solid relation with him.”
“The second reason is that everyone was demanding and shouting ‘we want a government and the people can’t take it anymore’, and in fact leaving the country without a government for four or five months amid these explosive situations in the region was an abnormal thing.
“Therefore, after a government was formed, we can’t say that we’re against it, and after what people had endured throughout five months we should not obstruct the government now,” Murr added.
He also noted that “this cabinet contains ministers whose competence we respect and appreciate, and we can’t take a stance against them before we see what this government will do.”
