Murr Accuses Suleiman of ‘Exposing his Security’

Former Defense Minister Elias Murr held President Michel Suleiman responsible for exposing his security, stressing that he didn’t carry out his tasks towards the probe into the bombing that targeted him.

“I have been with him (the president) since he was the army chief. He didn’t carry out his tasks concerning the investigation into my attempted murder. And his last stances from the government (show that) he exposed us,” Murr told LBC television on Thursday night.

The minister survived an assassination attempt in July 2005.

The ex-Minister said that “so far Syria has nothing to do with my assassination attempt” calling on PM Najib Miqati to “respect the international resolutions and cooperate with the international tribunal to the maximum level.”

Murr blamed Hizbullah for the attack.

"I have had doubts for a long time that a Hizbullah cell was involved in the attempt on my life, and I took the matter up with Hizbullah MPs who all denied it," he told the television network.

Murr said there was evidence that the same Hizbullah cell had executed both the Beirut bombing that killed Hariri and the bombing that targeted his car in a suburb east of the capital.
