The Phalange Party on Monday called on Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from war-torn Syria and take part in producing a "made in Lebanon" new cabinet.
"Given the security threats in the country, which are linked to the repercussions of the Syrian crisis, the Phalange Party calls for a drastic approach towards the obstacles that are hindering the formation of the new cabinet,” the party's political bureau said in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.
“The politburo calls on Hizbullah to return to its normal place in Lebanon and take part in producing a 'made in Lebanon' cabinet that would be vested with the broadest powers to guarantee security and stability and fend off strife,” it added.
The party renewed its strong condemnation of the Tripoli bombings, voicing solidarity with the city and its leaders and residents and warning that the “bleak situation” and “creeping sedition” require an “urgent salvation initiative.”
The conferees also expressed their relief over “the broad national solidarity in the face of the tragedy,” hailing “the rhetoric of Tripoli, which rose above the pain and rejected the phenomenon of vigilante groups.”
The party described President Michel Suleiman's call as a “valid roadmap to exit the crisis, especially in terms of abiding by the Baabda Declaration and gathering in an inclusive government and in the national dialogue committee,” urging all parties to heed the presidential call without “warnings or preconditions.”
